Bloomington, IN – Who knew there was a class to learn how to play with blocks? The Monroe County Purdue Extension office hosted a Block Party for children and their parents at Country View Apartments last Friday. Block Party events are times of free play with blocks of all sizes for children ages 8 months to 8 years. It was an opportunity for parents to interact and play with their children while learning how they can help them develop a variety of skills through block play.
It’s more than just fun time! Research has shown that through block play children can learn a variety of skills such as math, science, social, physical, new words, pre-reading, creativity, and problem-solving skills. We also ate cupcakes because as one 5-year-old resident says, “It’s not a party if there is no cake”.
