Walk Across America

In an effort to keep seniors moving and active, Providence Place of Marion decided to start a walking club to “walk across America.” The goal was for this senior apartment community to walk the miles between Marion, Indiana and Hawaiian Islands by the end of October, 2018. Now before you call them crazy, this isn’t as daunting as it sounds because the miles are logged as a group and not individually. This allows for the community to celebrate together along the way!

Each week everyone keeps track of how far they have walked. At the end of the week the tally forms are submitted to the office and added to the total. As the miles grow, they will have themed parties to celebrate staying active as a community!

Here are a few of the party themes:

  • Indianapolis – 66 miles – Indy 500 Party
  • Chicago – 177 miles – Deep Dish Pizza
  • St. Louis – 310 miles – Toasted Ravioli

And so on…

What great way to bring a community together and get some exercise alone the way. Currently they are through Coney Island, NY and moving on!!
